Tennis Benches

Tennis in the Land, a local host of a US Open Women’s Qualifier Tennis Tournament, contracted me to make player benches for center court. I worked with them to design and fabricated the benches over a two-month period. I was given creative freedom with few design requirements: Room for advertisement, ability to hold two players and easy to transport. For the wood seat and back I laid up strips of wood to achieve the staggered effect, then used a CNC router to create the pockets and curves. For the legs I had the had stainless steel bent then I used a waterjet to cut custom gussets after running simulations on SolidWorks to ensure the integrity of the benches. Finally, I used laser cutters to create the custom shapes for the acrylic floating advertisements and made custom stickers using a vinyl cutter.
